This is my first quilt!
I made it in the summer of 2008 after I returned from a road trip through the South West of the USA.
In The Wal-Mart in Santa Fe I discoverd the Rotary cutter,
ruler and mat and decided there and then that I would start quilting.
I bought my first fabric in the quiltshop in Santa Fe!!
But I didn’t buy my ruler and mat!
In the US you use inches and in the Netherlands we use centimeters.
I wanted a ruler in cm.
I thought!!!
Boy, was I wrong! 😂
Nou I have both and only use the rulers with inches! ☺️
I had no idea if there were quiltshops in the Netherlands!!
I had to search on the internet to find two in Amsterdam.
I bought the fabric for this wall quilt at Den Haan en Wagenmakers in Amsterdam.
It is chinz fabric.
Very beautiful.
They no longer sell it.
They sell other beautifull fabrics.
I red the instructions on the back of the paper from the fabric and started working.
I had no idea what I was doing.
As a child I sat next to my mother many times when she was sewing and
learned a lot just by watching and remembering.
And I returned to the shop to ask advice, twice.
Elsbeth Wallenburg, she still works there, helped me and I was able to finnish my very first quilt.
I love 💙 this quilt and it hangs on the wall of my sewing room.
It has no name, just number 1.
